Ceramics
I did my minor in the material ceramics. During the minor, I had a chance to play and experiment with
the material while at the same time we got a lot of background information. I now feel like the material is
another tool I can add to my design toolbox.
The project I did with the material started with a series of red-bull cans I found in the area where we were
working. I was fascinated by the diversity of states and levels of deformation I found the cans in. Using
the idea of deforming such a perfect shape I made a series of small vases that all come from the same mold
but are deformed on different levels while the material is still soft. Since the vases are made out of
porcelain, a material that memorizes shape, a little bump in the vases was sometimes enough to let it
completely deform in the kiln.
